Frequently asked questions about counselling & psychotherapy
-
Therapy is a space for you to explore feelings, challenges, experiences and thoughts with a trained professional. Therapy creates a space for you to think about patterns and ways of being rather than be driven by them unconsciously.
Therapy is a relational space where you don’t have to carry difficult emotions, memories or experiences on your own.
-
You don’t need to wait until you are in crisis before engaging with therapy. It can be a valuable space where you can start to understand yourself better, navigate life transitions or deal with a challenge you’re facing.
Signs that it might be a good time to reach out include feeling stuck or overwhelmed, experiencing strained relationships, experiencing changes in your sleep patterns, appetite, energy levels or focus.
If you’re curious about therapy, this could be a sign that you are ready for meaningful change and could benefit from therapy.

The number of sessions you need depends on things like what your goals are and what issues you want to address.
Some issues may require no more than a few sessions and deeper exploration will take more time.
You are fully in control of how many sessions you have and are under no obligation to attend a ‘minimum number’.
-
Both in person sessions and online sessions are strictly confidential. What you talk about in our sessions remains private. This is a key apsect of our work together.
There are some exceptions, usually regarding serious risk of harm to yourself or others. These exceptions will be explained at the very start of our work together and set out clearly in our therapy agreement.

It is important that you feel comfortable with me and that we feel like a good fit.
This is why I offer a free 20-minute consultation where you can talk about what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you may have and get a sense of what it might be like to work together.
There is no pressure to make a decision during the consultation. You can take time afterwards to reflect on our conversation, how it felt to talk to me and whether you would like to take the next step.
If you would like to find out more before booking an introductory consultation please do get in touch.
